Alyssa Valdez tries to continue her monster performance for Bureau of Customs when they face her former team BaliPure today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The anticipated match is set at 6 p.m. with the BoC Transformers aiming for their third straight win to inch closer to pacesetter University of Santo Tomas Tigresses (4-0) at the helm.
Valdez expects to steer her team to another victory after an impressive 39-point effort in their 18-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9 win over Laoag last week, and the 22-year-old spiker is excited to compete against her former teammates for the first time.
“It’s going to be fun and challenging at the same time, kasi syempre, we know each other on and off the court: yung mga galaw namin inside the court and kung ano yung nakakapagpa-frustrate sa amin,” said Valdez of her former teammates.
Amy Ahomiro, one of BaliPure’s key players and Valdez’s former Ateneo teammate, echoed the same sentiment and added that it’s going to be a healthy competition.
“It’s going to be a good experience for us to be against each other. We’re always going to be teammates at heart, but it’s going to be interesting to see her on the other side of the net,” Ahomiro said.
Valdez and Customs, however, will finally get the reinforcement they needed after Thai imports Kanjana Kuthaisong and Natthanicha Jaisaen were cleared to play.
For BaliPure, which seeks to bounce back from a 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-13 loss to UST last weekend, help will come from American imports Kaylee Manns and Katharine Morrell as well as skipper Sue Roces, Dzi Gervacio and Charo Soriano.
Meanwhile, Laoag and Air Force untangle themselves from a 1-1 win-loss logjam when they square off at 4 p.m.
In the Spikers’ Turf, Instituto Estetico Manila goes for its second win when it clashes with winless 100 Plus (0-2) at 12:30 p.m.
