Catholic prelates expect no improvement in the relationship between the Church and President Rodrigo Duterte.
Church leaders said they won’t even be surprised if their relationship with the President would further worsen.
“It will not improve. I think it will further worsen,” said Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles.
“It will not improve because that is his character…I believe he will make true his threat before that he will expose the anomalies involving priests and bishops which is only right,” he added.
The Lipa prelate said he could not blame Duterte for his attitude towards the church due to the criticisms he received from some church leaders.
Still, Arguelles said he is not afraid of any expose saying no amount of expose will destroy the Church.
“I’m not afraid. I expect that. I expect the worst. There is also a need to purify the Church,” said Arguelles. “Many have tried it (destroying the church) but they did not succeed”.
Like Arguelles, retired Lingayen Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz also expect no warming up of relationship with Duterte. (Leslie Ann G. Aquino)
