Rain or Shine center Beau Belga will meet with RoS co-owner Raymond Yu this Monday, hoping to thresh things out with his fresh three-year contract with the Elasto Painters.
The 6-foot-6 Belga was supposed to sign the deal last Saturday but was a no-show in the meeting with team manager Mamerto Mondragon and new coach Caloy Garcia at the RoS office in Pasig City.
“We’ll meet with Mr. Raymond Yu on Monday to discuss some details of the contract,” said Belga’s agent Danny Espiritu yesterday when contacted by Bulletin-Tempo.
Espiritu said that while Rain or Shine has already offered a maximum salary of P420,000, or approximately a P15 million deal, Belga is asking for a few perks, which – under the PBA rules – is allowable to be included in the contract of players.
“Pwede naman yun, allowed naman basta under PBA rules and players union,” Espiritu said.
Belga’s decision to skip the meeting last week raised speculations that RoS management would be in for a long and messy contract dispute with Belga, an eight-year veteran who has played for RoS the past five years.
This season, Belga averaged 8.07 points, 5.19 rebounds and 1.55 assists while shooting nearly 30 percent from three-point territory.
Under then coach Yeng Guiao, now with NLEX, the burly Belga has transformed into one of the league’s enforcers and vocal leaders of Rain or Shine.
