A construction worker died while eight co-workers were injured after the wall of a hardware store they were building collapsed on them in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu Friday.
PO3 Jason Gayo of the Liloan Police Station identified the fatality as Lazaro Capa Jr., who succumbed to severe injuries in the hospital yesterday morning.
Two other victims were in critical condition while six were released from the hospital for minor injuries.
Initial police investigation showed the foundation of the structure could be weak and that the rain could have eroded the base and contributed to the cause of the incident.
Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco said they will investigate to determine the lapses and possible liabilities of the building owner and the contractor.
“The LGU will be conducting a thorough investigation on this matter with all parties involved, including the contractor and its principal,” Frasco said.
All operations at the construction site will be halted pending an investigation to be conducted by the Municipal Engineering Office, she said. Frasco said a work stoppage order will be issued against the commercial project.
