LUCENA CITY, Quezon – City Mayor Roderick A. Alcala led the formal opening of the newly constructed P100 million “palengke” mall Saturday, replacing the old public market which was razed by fire in 2014.
The new public market occupies the one-hectare lot, with two levels of tiled floors that also include the wet section.
Alcala said most of those displaced by the tragic 2014 fire will be given priority when it comes to occupying the 400 stalls within the market.
It took about two years for the project to be completed which was funded by the city government and ably supported by the Department of Agriculture.
Alcala adds they are also prioritizing the construction of an elevator to cater to the areas persons with disabilities.
Alcala has given the city engineering office the green light to construct the elevator.
It can be recalled that the market was razed to the ground two years ago as products which was then being sold were mostly made of plastic materials. (Danny J. Estacio)
