As typhoon “Karen” left the country’s area of responsibility yesterday morning, another typhoon with international name “Haima” was set to enter the vicinity in the afternoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) located typhoon Haima at 1,615 kilometers east of Visayas before Monday noon.
Even before its expected entry into the country’s area of responsibility, Haima has further intensified and was upgraded into a typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 130 kph.
Once inside the country’s vicinity, Haima will be given a local name of “Lawin,” the fourth tropical cyclone inside the area of responsibility this month and 12th this year. (Ellalyn de Vera)
