‘IN’ WORDS – Highspeed’s items on showbiz lingo never fails to elicit feedback from readers. More please, they ask. There are even suggestions that a book is in order. Don’t know about that, but here are more choiced “in” words in showbiz.
Thunder over the hill – Thunder as in “tanda” and over the hill as in “laos.”
Laosian deep – Think “laos na laos,” even if one is not yet thunder (“tanda” in case you’ve forgotten). Has-been.
Well, nothing is more pathetic than to see a has-been acting as if he or she is still popular, on top of the world.
Why can’t they face reality instead of being “siony” (as in “nag-iilusyon”)?
How about those star-inspired?
Haggardo Versoza, Charo Santos-Conscious, Lady Gaga-rin, Cherry Pie Lupaypay, Mahalia Jackson, Sharon Stone, Rica Peralejo, Jolina Magdangal, Presentacion Romero, Lumen Moreno, Luz Valdez, Lucy Torres, Winnie Santos (or Cordero or Monsod), Carmi Martin, Carmina Villaroel, Madame Curie, Ate Koring.

GABBY’S DAUGHTER – Highspeed contributor Jay P. Delgado reports:
Cloie Syquia Skarne, 22, the daughter of actor Gabby Concepcion and model Jenny Syquia, is among the 83 delegates competing for the 16th Miss Earth Pageant which holds its coronation night at the MOA Arena on Oct. 29.
Cloie earned the right to represent Sweden in the tilt after winning the Miss Earth Sweden title at the national finals held in Stockholm last August.
After Gabby and Jenny separated in 1995, Jenny married Swedish Filip Skarne. Cloie, then 2, adopted her father’s surname and has since lived and schooled in Sweden.
At the press presentation of the Miss Earth contestants last Oct. 11, Cloie was easily one of the most photographed delegates.
At the evening gown competition of the Group 2 delegates held at Versailles Palace across Ayala Alabang, Las Piñas City, Cloie was poised and elegant in her Francis Libiran gown, eventully winning the bronze medal (3rd place). Miss Russia Aleksandra Cherepanova won the gold, while Miss Italy Denise Frigo took the silver.
They were awarded by State Properties Corporation president and owner of Versailles Palace, Mr. Allen C. Roxas.
The 83 delegates were divided into 3 groups who will compete for preliminary events leading to the grand finals on Oct. 29.
Cloie’s half-sisters KC and Garie are giving their full support to her pageant journey; KC even joined Cloie for a work out at the gym as part of her preparations for the tilt.
Cloie loves the “walk” part of the pageant where one has to sashay gracefully on stage whether in a swimsuit, gown or costume. She “dreads” the question-and-answer portion and is especially training hard for that round.
