BEIJING, China – If a public servant asks for a bribe in exchange of faster service, slap him on the face to bring him back to his senses.
This was the fierce advice given by President Duterte to Filipinos who experience corruption when transacting with the bureaucracy as he promised there will be “no corruption” in his government.
“You are not asserting your rights. From now on, kung may maghingi sa inyo, que se joda presidente, vice president para sa papel mo, p***** ina sampalin mo,” Duterte said in his remarks before the Filipino community gathered at the Hyatt Hotel in Beijing last Wednesday night.
“Yan lang ang paraan. Kasi hindi ninyo i-assert ang right ninyo, hindi talaga mamamatay itong corruption,” said the former mayor of Davao City.
The President also urged Filipinos not to be afraid and instead “raise hell” whenever a government employee or official is involved in irregularities in processing of permits and other documents. He said such action would attract media attention and later be raised to his level.
“There will be no corruption. My advice to all is that be assertive of your rights and anybody from the BIR, Customs, Immigration, you have my backing: Sampalin mo,” he reiterated. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
