12 noon – Diliman College vs CEU
2 p.m. – BulSU vs Univ. of Batangas
Multi-titled Centro Escolar University goes for its fourth straight win when it faces Diliman College today even as University of Batangas tries to end a three-game losing run in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez Sports Center in Paranaque City.
With their height and heft advantage – not to mention their vast experience – the CEU Scorpions are heavily favored against the Diliman Blue Dragons in their 12 noon showdown.
The UB Brahmans, on the other hand, are looking forward to nailing their first win when they collide with the Bulacan State University Gold Gears at 2 p.m.
BSU registered the first upset win in the tournament when it downed Olivarez College, 96-91, in the opener, but has dropped its last two games against Technological Institute of the Philippines and Colegio De San Lorenzo.
Expected to lead the Brahmans are Joefried Arboleda, Rhenz Espiritu and Warlito Gotam while the Gold Gears of coach Antonio Tayao will once again rely on Leonard de Leon and Dom Fajardo.
But all eyes will be on CEU’s Rod Edondo.
The 6-foot-6 Edondo came through with 20 points and 20 of rebounds in leading CEU to an 81-65 win over the TIP Engineers.
He produced those numbers despite the presence of two Nigerians – 6-foot-10 Chris Oko0ronkwo and 6-foot-4 Ikee Akpuru – in TIP’s roster.
Also like to produce decent numbers for CEU are Karlo Casino, Jason Opiso and Ric Fuentes.
But CEU coach Yong Garcia is not taking the Blue Dragons lightly, saying they have what it takes to pull off an upset win.
