Defending champions Centro Escolar University, Chiang Kai Shek College and Miriam College continued their winning run over the weekend to grab top rankings going into the semifinals of the 47th WNCAA tournament.
Five-time senior basketball champion CEU walloped St. Scholastica’s College, 102-19, last Saturday at the latter’s homecourt for a six-game sweep and a twice-to beat advantage over No. 4 University of Asia & the Pacific. The other semifinal duel, a knockout match, will pit No. 2 Philippine Women’s University against No. 3 San Beda College Alabang.
Junior defending champion CKSC, after winning all its four Group A assignments, dominated host St. Jude Catholic School, 101-32, in the quarterfinals. It will take on La Salle College Antipolo, which downed Miriam, 60-30, in the Final Four. De La Salle Zobel and Angelicum College dispute the other finals berth.
De La Salle Zobel will seek a sixth straight midgets championship against St. Paul College Pasig.
In the volleyball tournament held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, 46th season junior champion Miriam tallied a sixth straight victory, beating St. Scholastica in the quarterfinals, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, to set up a semifinal clash against CKSC. DLSZ and San Beda also arranged a semifinal battle.
