A city prosecutor was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men while on his way to his office yesterday in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes identified the victim as city prosecutor Rolando Acido, who was shot by two unidentified suspects while he was about to enter the Hall of Justice in Barangay Dahican, Mati City.
Acido, who is already half-paralyzed due to a stroke, was rushed to the St. Camillus Hospital where he eventually expired.
Meanwhile, DoJ Prosecutor General Claro Arellano condemned “cowardly and senseless killing” of one his officials at the National Prosecution Service (NPS).
“The timing and circumstances of the ambush against City Prosecutor Acido raise serious questions about whether it was related to his work as a prosecutor,” said Arellano.
“The ambush of City Prosecutor Acido is another tragic episode in the sordid saga of dangers faced by our prosecutors in the performance of their duties,” he added. (JEFFREY DAMICOG)
