TOKYO – Act like a mayor and demand quality service from government.
President Duterte has advised Filipino workers here to act tough like him and shame those involved in involved in corruption and poor service in government agencies.
The President said they could even slap the public officer silly and curse him in case he tries to exhort money or make government transactions difficult.
“Kayo na mismo para pagpasok mo sa airport, parang mayor ka na rin. ‘Yung astang mayor na pa-ganun ba,” the tough-talking former mayor of Davao City told the Filipino community in Tokyo while on a recent official visit.
“Pagpunta mo ng Pilipinas, may pulis, Customs, o Immigration at humihingi sa’yo ng pera, sampalin mo. Sabihin mo, sabi ni Mayor doon sa Japan,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
Duterte said overseas Filipino workers must assert their rights and not allow any government official to oppress them, saying he needs public cooperation to effectively stamp out corruption in government. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
