A mayor was arrested after police raided his house in Barangay Cabaruyan, Libungan, North Cotabato and yielded guns and bullets yesterday.
Libungan Mayor Christopher “Amping” Cuan was arrested a day after authorities killed Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao Mayor Samsudin Otto Dimaukon and his nine bodyguards in a checkpoint in Makilala, North Cotabato. Dimaukon was linked by President Duterte to the illegal drugs trade.
Cuan is also suspected to be involved in illegal drug activities and his name reportedly appeared in the list of narco-politicians of President Duterte.
No shabu or any illegal drugs were found inside the house of Cuan during the raid that police said was carried out after a local court issued at least 20 search warrants against the local chief executive.
“No one was injured in the raid, various firearms and ammunition for several types of firearms were confiscated,” said Supt. Romeo Galgo, spokesman of the Central Mindanao police.
Seized from Cuan were a Bushmaster, an M16 rifle, several handguns, ammunition for various types of firearms, and accessories.
Cuan was immediately taken to the provincial police office for booking procedures. (AARON B. RECUENCO)
