Three workers died while six others were injured after a 10-wheel truck carrying construction supplies crashed into a house beside the national highway in Malungon, Sarangani Thursday.
Imee Carino, action officer of the Malungon Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the truck was headed to General Santos City when it lost its brakes on a downhill portion of the national highway in Sitio Buayan, Barangay Malandag at around 10:30 p.m.
She said the truck came from Davao City and was carrying workers and supplies of construction firm L5 Builders Inc.
The house, owned by the Anque family, sustained damage but none of the residents was hurt.
Reynaldo Ganton, Bernabe Bole, and Erick John Kenneth dela Torre died after being trapped by the steel bars and other supplies on the truck.
The truck’s driver, Renny Mangalaw and five other workers – Rudy Duran, Ariel Ortiz, Rudy Pulvera, Arthur Lumantas, and Lando Macarandan – sustained various injuries.
“Most of the victims suffered from head injuries,” Carino said in an interview over a local television station.
Macarandan is still in critical condition but the five other injured workers have been declared out of danger at the Malungon municipal hospital. (PNA)
