CEBU CITY – Two three-year-old children died in a fire that destroyed a two-story house in a subdivision in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City yesterday.
Fire Officer 1 Welyn Mabilog identified the victims as Elain Margaret and Philet Myatt. The victims were taken to various hospitals but died of apparent suffocation, Mabilog said.
Their mother June Myatt and nanny Lovelyn Estender were injured in the fire and also taken to the hospital.
Investigation showed that the victims were sleeping inside their room with their nanny when the fire broke out at around 2:55 a.m. in Acacia Place Subdivision.
The mother of the victims jumped off the terrace outside the master’s bedroom and survived. The nanny was found unconscious in the comfort room by firefighters while the victims were lying on the bed.
Investigation also showed that the fire was caused by an air conditioner that exploded due to nonstop use on the first floor of the house where the room of the victims was located.
The fire was put under control at past 4:04 a.m. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)
