The victorious Philippine wushu and sepak takraw teams hope their recent success in the world stage would result in a favorable campaign for the country in the Asian Games two years from now.
The duo of Divine Wally (female 48 kg) and Arnel Mandal (male 65 kg) clinched gold medals in the 8th Sanda World Cup in Xi’an, China, while Jason Huerte and Mark Gonzales won the gold in the men’s doubles of the Kings World Cup Sepak Takraw Championships in Thailand.
The gold medal feats should augur well not only to the Filipinos’ campaign in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia.
“We’re beefing up for the SEA Games, and hope to bring home our first Asian Games gold medal,” said Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association (Pasta) president Karen Caballero in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum Tuesday at Shakey’s Malate.
