ILOILO CITY – A group of Chinese nationals has expressed interest in the long-proposed construction of bridges connecting the major islands of the Visayas.
In a phone interview, Iloilo 2nd District Rep. Arcadio Gorriceta said the Chinese group came to Leganes town, Iloilo province last week for an ocular inspection.
Jose Al Fruto, assistant regional director of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6), confirmed the said inspection.
Fruto said the Chinese also made an ocular inspection for the bridge’s proposed site in Buenavista town, Guimaras province.
Another group of Chinese is also scheduled to expect the proposed sites in Iloilo and Guimaras on November 14.
The proposed Iloilo-Guimaras bridge will be the first phase of the bridges linking the Visayan islands.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar earlier announced that construction of the Visayan bridges will start during the Duterte administration.
The proposed project will also have bridges connecting Guimaras-Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental-Cebu, and Cebu-Bohol. (Tara Yap)
