HOW THEY SURVIVED: Eight years and counting.
How can a weekly show run this long on TV in this day and age when audience tastes are said to be fleeting and fancy-free?
Weekend comedy show “Banana Sundae” is proof that with consistently good serving on the menu, a program can survive against all odds.
Banana Sundae is celebrating its eighth anniversary with a two-part special on Nov. 20 and 27 on ABS-CBN. A live presentation will take place on Nov. 17 (Thursday) at the Kia Theater in Cubao.
What made them click?
Veteran cast member John Prats says, “I think it is because we are really good friends in real life. We are a real barkada off cam so every taping it’s just like meeting up with friends just having a good time.”

GOING BANANAS: Banana Sundae, formerly called Banana Split, started with an all-girl cast in 2008.
After a few changes in name, it has grown to expand into a full barkada of artistas.
Relatively new with the company are drama actors JC de Vera and Jessy Mendiola, who are proving their comic chops with each passing episode.
The comedy show is served weekly after ASAP by a full cast that includes Angelica Panganiban, Pokwang, Pooh, Jayson Gainza, Ryan Bang, Jobert Austria, Sunshine Garcia, Aiko Climaco and Badjie Mortiz.
“Banana Sundae” remains a consistent top-rater on weekends and a trending topic on social media. Its famous segments include Hugot and Baby Luv and various spoofs of current national events.
It is directed by Bobot Mortiz. (NESTOR CUARTERO)
