Perpetual Help launches its bid of re-establishing its dominance of the league it ruled for almost a decade as it tackles St. Benilde today at the start of the men’s division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Altas will be parading nearly the same core that defeated the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals in the finals last season to cop their 10th straight championship and tied the Mapua Cardinals as the league’s second most titled squad in the men’s squad.
If the Las Piñas-based school ended up winning again this year, it will move closer to Letran, the league’s winningest squad in the division.
The Las Piñas-based spikers will be parading an almost intact line up headed by the Taneo brothers, Rey, Jr. and Relan, Randean Abcede, Warren Catipay, Esmail Kasim and Allan Jay Salaan.
Of last year’s triumphant squad, only Bonjomar Castel and Neil Barry Ytorzaita have left, making the Altas favored to repeat.
The Perpetual Help-St. Benilde duel is set at 11:30 a.m.
Other men’s games will pit Lyceum of the Phl U against Letran at 8:30 a.m., Jose Rizal with Mapua at 10 a.m., San Sebastian with Arellano U at 1 p.m. and San Beda with EAC at 2:30 p.m.
Perpetual Help, meanwhile, will defend its juniors crown starting on Friday against St. Benilde at 10:30 a.m. with LPU clashing with Letran at 9 a.m., San Sebastian battling Arellano at 12 noon and San Beda tangling with EAC at 1:30 p.m.
