BEST ACTRESS DAW: ‘I thought I was up for the best actress award,’’ declared Paolo Ballesteros at last week’s media conference celebrating his film “Die Beautiful’s” double victory at the recently held Tokyo International Film Festival.
The “Eat Bulaga” co-host and sometime actor won the best actor award in said filmfest that also witnessed the winning of Eugene Domingo as best actress in 2014 for her work in “Barber’s Tales.”
Paolo said he hoped to share the film with fellow Filipinos if and when it makes it as one of eight entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. The announcement will be made on Nov. 18.

DOING HIS OWN MAKE UP: Director Jun Lana disclosed how appreciative he was with Paolo’s cooperation throughout the making of the film. It helped that Paolo, an expert make-up artist, made his own face during shoots.
‘That meant big savings for the production,’ he said.
As the story in the film goes, Paolo’s character, a transvestite, dies after having been crowned as a beauty queen.
During her wake, her friends present her as a different female personality every night of the long wake.
Each and every time, Paolo did his own make up before a shoot. He is presented as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, etc.

WAS THAT REALLY YOU, JULIA ROBERTS: Paolo is so good at making faces that at the Tokyo filmfest, an Indonesian guest told him during cocktails that he heard Julia Roberts was at the red carpet event previously.
The guest was floored when Paolo told him it was he and not the real Julia there.
“Die Beautiful,” produced by Idea First Company and October Train Films, also stars Albie Casino, Luis Alandy, with Eugene Domingo, Iza Calzado, among others in cameos.
