Who is the sixth general President Duterte referred to during his talk with personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)?
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa doesn’t have a clue about the identity of the sixth general.
“All I know are the five, but I will ask questions about it,” Dela Rosa said during an interview yesterday.
On Sunday, Duterte said he has fired six generals as an offshoot to the country’s relentless campaign against illegal drugs.
Previously, Duterte named five past and present generals he alleged to be involved in the illegal drug trade. They are Police Director Joel Pagdilao, Chief Supt. Edgardo Tinio, Chief Supt. Bernardo Diaz and retired generals Marcelo Garbo and Vicente Loot.
“Remember, I fired six generals when I assumed the presidency for involvement in drug industry,” the President was quoted saying on the occasion of the NBI’s anniversary.
Aside from the generals, a number of police officials was also implicated by the late Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
For his part, Dela Rosa vowed to relieve regional directors who will not perform in the campaign against illegal drugs.
After a three-month assessment, however, not one regional director is in danger of losing his job.
He said that all the police commanders are under evaluation on whether or not they would remain in their posts as the six-month deadline to end illegal drugs is set to end next month. (AARON RECUENCO)
