ILOILO CITY (PIA) – There is no let-up in the campaign on responsible rice consumption, as the Department of Agriculture gives more tips for consumers and farmers.
James Earl Ogatis, DA-6 Information Officer said, that the agency is sharing to the public the goodness of rice, especially brown rice.
“Much more that we are celebration this November the Rice awareness Month, we encourage everyone to support our campaign,” Ogatis said.
“If you are a consumer, do not waste even a single grain of rice, eat brown rice as well and mix it with other staples like corn and camote,” he added.
He said that along with this, thank and appreciate the rice farmers as a form of valuing their produce.
“If you are a farmer, plant rice and adopt recommended technologies that help you increase your farm yield and your income,” Ogatis said.
The DA also called on policymakers to institutionalize the availability and default serving of half cup of rice to prevent wastage and give consumers more options.
Meanwhile, DA said its BROWN4good Challenge is extended until December 5, 2016, so posting pictures of brown rice meals on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, is still encouraged.
