THE winning streak for Filipino beauty queens continued after Miss Philippines Janela Joy Cuaton won 1st runner-up at the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2016 beauty pageant held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last Friday.
Miss Thailand was crowned Miss Tourism Metropolitan International. Other winners were Miss Cambodia, 2nd runner-up; Miss Costa Rica, 3rd runner-up; and Miss China, 4th runner-up.
Cuaton, 18, is a fashion model from Doha, Qatar. Her mom is a nurse at Hamad Hospital in Doha while her father is a bank executive in the Philippines.
She dreams of going to Europe or New York to enhance her skills in fashion and modelling.
“I want to become a model trainer so that I can help other girls pursue their dreams in modelling,” said Cuaton, who collects shoes particularly high heels.
Miss Asia-Pacific Int’l
Also the Miss Asia Pacific International 2016 beauty pageant kicked off with the presentation of the Darling of the Press special award to Miss Yangon during a show held at the Manila Pavilion recently.
Miss Yangon Nay Chi Lin topped the special award chosen by members of the press who attended the media presentation.
First runner-up was Miss Canada Natalie Carriere while Miss South Sudan, 2nd runner-up.
Other winners of special awards were Miss Indonesia who won the National Costume Award while Miss Cook Islands was named Miss Talent.
Forty candidates are competing at the relaunch of the Miss Asia Pacific International beauty pageant.
After a 10-year hiatus, the most popular beauty pageant in Southeast Asia made a grand comeback.
