LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Two nephews of former Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala were arrested during a buy-bust operation yesterday in Sariaya, Quezon.
Senior Superintendent Antonio C. Yarra, Quezon PPO Director identified the suspects as Sajid Abutin Alcala, 35 years old and his younger brother 23-year-old Cer Olliriz alias Red-Red who are sons of Cerilo ‘Athel’ Alcala, brother of the former Agriculture chief.
Yarra said that around 2:30 a.m. joint police units of Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Task Group (PAIDSTG) and Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) conducted a drug bust operation where authorities posing as buyers were able to obtain shabu from the suspects.
Sajid and his group did not resist arrest as police confiscated 62.30 grams of shabu said to be worth around R115,255, drug paraphernalia, the R6,000 marked money, three vehicles and a motorcycle allegedly being utilized in their drug trade.
Also arrested were the Alcala brothers’ cohorts Joel Jamilla Lambit, 31, Noel Gabriel Abutin, 52, Doña May Radones Abastillas, 22, and Yumiko Angela Tan, 24.
Sajid and Athel initially surrendered to aurhorities last August.
The elder Alcala was placed under hospital arrest while Sajid temporarily regained his freedom as drug charges against him could not be bolstered at that time.
