The Quezon City Police District obtained yesterday the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages capturing the events before Bureau of Internal Revenue-Makati City director Jonas Amora was killed in an ambush in Quezon City early Monday morning.
Amora, 55, of Filinvest East, Antipolo City was on his way to work when two motorcycle-riding suspects shot him while aboard a white Toyota Innova (EBZ 502) at the corner of Katipunan Avenue and Topside Road in Barangay Escopa 2 around 5 a.m. Monday. He died from several gunshot wounds in the body.
His driver, Angelito Pineda, 50, is now in a stable condition but could not speak yet after bullets hit his cheek and arm. He is still confined at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC).
The incident was captured by a CCTV camera of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) installed along Katipunan Ave.
The suspects, both wearing helmets, were seen waiting for the victims’ vehicle. According to the footage’s time stamp, the white Innova came around 5:04 a.m. and slowed down as the hitmen fired at the victims. The gunmen then fled towards Aurora Boulevard.
In the same video some two minutes later, Pineda was caught alighting the vehicle and flagging down a taxi which rushed him to QMMC.
In the footages obtained by the QCPD from Marikina City, the suspects were caught tailing Amora’s vehicle at a close range from Marcos Highway in Barangay Tayug.
The convoy then made a turn to Riverbanks Center in Barangay Barangka then to Major Dizon St. in Brgy. Industrial Valley.
They were along Topside Road in Escopa when the motorbike overtook the Innova and waited on Katipunan Avenue where they attacked the victims. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
