Defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) tries to salvage its season when it goes for a second round berth against the dangerous Ombudsman side today in the 5th UNTV Cup at the Pasig Sports Center.
Since both teams are carrying similar 2-2 cards, the winner in their 3:30 p.m. showdown will clinch the No. 3 seeding in Group A. The remaining spot will be determined through quotient since the loser will drop to a share for fourth to fifth places with MMDA.
Only the top four teams in each group will advance to the second round where their win-loss records will be carried over.
The Group B cast is already complete with newcomer Bureau of Customs, Judiciary, PNP and National Housing Authority.
The Judiciary Magis are already assured of the No. 2 seeding even if they lose to the House of Representatives Solons today.
Malacañang completed a five-game sweep of Group A following a 72-55 drubbing of MMDA.
The winner of the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon gets the P4 million prize which it will donate to its chosen charity. Last season, AFP donated its prize to AFP-EBSO (Education Benefit Systems Office).
