DALAWANG Pinoy indie films ang umani ng matataas na parangal sa nakaraang 10th Five Flavours International Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Ang indie film na “Apocalypse Child” tungkol sa isang love child na iniwan sa Baler ng acclaimed Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola ay nanalo ng People’s Jury main award at cash prize na 2,500 euros para sa director nitong si Mario Cornejo.
Citation ng naturang festival sa “Apocalypse Child”: …For the affectionate portrayal of Filipino identity in its global, local, and individual dimensions, for a humorous, yet complex confrontation with the micro legacies of colonialism, and for its universal thematic and visual appeal.”
The Five Flavours award ay ang kauna-unahang international award ng “Apocalypse Child.”
Napanalunan din ng naturang pelikula ang Gawad Urian Best Supporting Actress para kay Ana Abad Santos.
Isa pang nagwagi sa Five Flavours filmfest ay ang indie film ni Eduardo Roy, Jr. na “Pamilya Ordinaryo.”
Awarded ang pelikula ng People’s Jury Special Mention.
Ayon sa festival citation nito: “…For its moving and thrilling portrayal of individual determination, for the effective creation of empathy through its distinctly cinematic language, and its electrifying portrayal of Manila.”
Ang “Pamilya Ordinaryo” ang nanalong Best Film sa 2016 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival at naparangalan pa ito ng Premio del Pubblico BNL or Audience Prize award sa independently run Venice Days section ng Venice International Film Festival noong nakaraang September.
Nakuha rin ng “Pamilya Ordinaryo” ang dalawang special jury mentions in directing (Roy) and acting (Hasmine Killip) at the London East Asia Film Festival sa United Kingdom. Napanalunan din nito ang awards for Best Director and Best Actress sa Hanoi International Film Festival in Vietnam. (RUEL J. MENDOZA)
