President Duterte has given drug personalities two options to choose from – stay at home or be killed – in a bid to keep them off the streets.
Speaking before the San Beda Law grand alumni homecoming at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on Saturday, Duterte said he plans to issue an order that will keep drug users off the streets.
“In the coming days, I will make it a must, a mandate that lahat kayo na natamaan ng droga huwag kayong lumabas ng bahay. Wala man akong presuhan, pumasok kayo sa bahay ninyo, mag-lock kayo,” the Chief Executive said.
Otherwise, he said, they would have to face the dire consequences. “Pagka lumabas kayo, p***** i** kayo papatayin ko kayo pag makita ko kayo sa labas,” warned the President.
Duterte made the statement as he underscored that the illegal drug problem is the heaviest burden the country is facing.
“Itong droga ang pinaka. Because it could lead to so many insane persons,” he said and gave a computation to show the extent of the illegal drug trade in the country.
“At R200 per day for one man, that is R6,000 every month times three million (drug users based on) PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency records), it’s R18 billion a month times 12 months, it’s R216 billion a year,” according to the President.
Drug users, on the other hand, resort to criminal activities such as robbery and killing to sustain their vice.
And while there’s a drop in the incidence of drug pushing because of the government’s all-out war on drugs, the President said: “That’s only for the moment, takot kasi.”
“How do we make it permanent? Can we legislate (a law in) Congress? Can we legislate fear, respect for the law? Wala. Hindi mo puwede itong tapik-tapikin ‘adre, kawawa naman yung Pilipinas, huminto ka na’,” Duterte said. (Elena L. Aben)
