5 p.m. – AFP vs Malacañang
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) rediscovered its deadly form in time and clobbered Ombudsman, 103-85, to revive its faltering second round bid in the 5th UNTV Cup held recently at the Pasig City Sports Center.
The reigning titlists got 25 points from Boyet Bautista to snap a two-game skid and improve to 3-2 in the 6-team Group A elims, tying idle Bureau of Fire Protection for second to third places.
The AFP Cavaliers, however, need to beat the Malacañang Kamao on Sunday to assure themselves a smooth passage into the second round – same thing for Bureau of Fire Protection which faces Ombudsman in an all-important match.
The MMDA Black Wolves, who are tied with Ombudsman at 2-3, collide with the Senate Defenders.
Meantime, former champion Judiciary closed out its elimination campaign on a high note by blasting the House of Representatives Solons, 114-94, in the 7-team Group B elims.
With the win, the Judiciary Magis finished second with a 5-1 card while PNP took the No. 3 slot following a 98-80 drubbing of GSIS.
Newcomer Bureau of Customs lorded over the group with an immaculate 6-0 mark. National Housing Authority took the No. 4 spot with an even 3-3 card.
The top four teams in each group will play another single round carrying their win-loss records in their group elims.
The winner of the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon gets the R4 million prize which it will donate to its chosen charity. Last season, AFP donated its prize to AFP-EBSO (Education Benefit Systems Office).
