Reigning men’s title-holder Perpetual Help vented its ire on last year’s finals foe Emilio Aguinaldo, hacking out an emphatic 25-23, 25-19, 25-15 victory yesterday to get back on track in the men’s division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
Rey Taneo came through with 13 hits, nine spikes and four blocks, while doing everything on defense with his superb digs and receptions while brother Relan did the facilitating with 30 excellent sets.
The Generals skidded to their fourth straight loss.
In women’s play, Perpetual Help routed EAC, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18, to nail its first win after dropping stinging defeats to reigning titlist St. Benilde and San Beda.
The Lady Generals fell to 0-3 (win-loss).
In juniors’ action, EAC rallied from a set down to stun defending champion Perpetual Help, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 17-15, and seize the solo lead with a perfect 3-0 record.
Ederson Rebusora unleashed a match-best 24 points while Ceejay Hicap, Dan Andrei Abardo, Francis Casas and Ralph Pitogo contributed 13, 13, 13 and 12, respectively, to also avenge the Brigadiers’ heartbreaking finals defeat to the Junior Altas a season back.
