The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday summoned the arrogant taxi driver who demanded an elderly to step out of his cab because of heavy traffic along EDSA.
The LTFRB ordered the operator of the taxi unit plated ABG-9497 and its driver caught in a viral video berating an elderly passenger in a bus stop at EDSA-Buendia last November 25.
The agency’s move came after a concerned citizen e-mailed them about the incident, which was posted by a certain Rose Dagpin on Facebook. To date, the video has more than 7,200 views and 1.4 million shares.
Dagpin said in her post that the driver at around 4 p.m. forced his elderly passenger to get out of the taxi “because of heavy traffic.”
It was seen in the clip that the still unidentified man carried a toddler who, Dagpin said, was his grandson.
The driver can also be heard shouting at the passenger not to complain since he had not charged him the metered fare.
Irked by driver, the passenger kicked the door of cab, prompting the driver to threaten him. After the brief argument, the taxi drove off.
The LTFRB charged the driver for being arrogant, for contracting passengers and his refusal to render service in violation of Joint Administrative Order 2014-01.
The agency also ordered the operator, Dionisio Umbalin, to explain why their unit’s franchise should not be revoked.
The duo were also asked to appear at the LTFRB for a hearing on December 7 at 9 a.m. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
