National University completed another twin-kill by upending University of Santo Tomas in the girls and boys finals of the UAAP high school volleyball tournament yesterday at the Adamson University gym.
Playmaker Joyme Cagande, playing with a dislocated shoulder and who nursed a fever on the eve of the deciding match, delivered as the Bullpups downed the Junior Tigresses, 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-20, to annex their third consecutive crown.
With Finals MVP Billie Jean Anima leading the way, NU swept UST, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19, for its second straight boys championship.
The Bullpups’ squads won the best-of-three series, 2-1, to dominate the high school competition.
The 17-year old Cagande, a daughter of a photographer from a major broadsheet, displayed a scintillating performance in a reserve role, as the reigning Best Setter was able to orchestrate plays well for newly-minted tournament MVP Faith Nisperos, middle hitter Thea Gagate and Princess Ann Robles in the fourth set to help NU prevail.
