Dear Manay Gina,
I’m 46 years old and I ‘m a widow. My friends and relatives say that I can still remarry. However, I find my situation quite enjoyable. I don’t date and have been celibate for many years. I have two children who live with me, and we are like roommates. The issue that bothers me is that when I run into old acquaintances, their first words are, “You’re still single?” How can I deal with this? To be honest, I don’t feel I should explain myself and feel a bit annoyed by these comments.
Flor
Dear Flor,
Your situation is not at all uncommon. There’s even a research that says, widows are wary of losing their newfound freedom and having to care for another husband.
You really shouldn’t have to explain a thing, but you do need an answer when people come up with questions like that. Try “I have had the best and have no need to remarry.” That ought to settle their hash. Anybody who doesn’t get the message is beyond understanding.
Affectionately,
Manay Gina
