A holdup suspect was killed while his cohort was wounded in a shootout with cops who caught them staging a robbery inside a passenger jeepney in Quezon City, Wednesday.
Police identified the slain suspect as Russel Cabrito and the wounded accomplice as Wilson Guinto, both residents of Barangay Capri, Novaliches.
Supt. April Young, QCPD Station 4 chief, said that prior to the shootout, Cabrito, Guinto and another cohort identified as Jemar Dalusong boarded a Malinta-bound jeepney in front of a school on Gen Luis St. in Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon; and at gunpoint declared a holdup.
As the suspects collected their loot from two passengers, bystanders saw the commotion and immediately called the five patrolling policemen stationed nearby.
The trio had just completed the heist when the cops came.
Instead of yielding, the suspects engaged the lawmen in a gunfight as they tried to flee.
Cabrito succumbed to gunshot wounds in the body while being rushed to Novaliches District Hospital.
Guinto, meanwhile, is still confined at the Quezon City General Hospital.
