The Philippine Sports Commission will implement the Philippine Sports Institute in January as part of the sports agency’s main priorities for the first quarter of 2017.
PSC chairman Butch Ramirez expressed the need to bolster the country’s sports development program in order to discover fresh talent as well as produce world-class athletes.
The institute is expected to have regional training satellites across the country with the collaboration of local government units.
It will focus on the areas concerning athletes’ development and training, sports science, and medical science.
“We need to strengthen our program for our athletes, from grassroots to the elite,” Ramirez said.
