The Philippines’ top junior netter AJ Lim continued his winning ways by barging into the quarterfinals of the Eddie Herr Invitational Junior Tennis Championships in Bradenton, Florida.
The 13th-seeded Lim whipped United States’ Vasil Kirkov, 6-2, 6-2, to inch closer to the crown in the Grade 1 tournament which was rated one rung below the Grand Slam.
The 17-year-old local bet has never dropped a set so far in the tournament, beating Sergio Hernandez Ramirez of Colombia in the first round, 6-2, 6-3; Filip Jianu of Romania, 6-1, 6-3.
Lim’s victory over Kirkov arranged him a next meeting with Turkish 12th pick Ergi Kirkin, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over American Sam Riffice.
Lim, however, fell short in the doubles with partner Marko Mladinovic of Serbia after yielding to Bulgaria’s Sebastian Mermersky and Great Britain’s Finn Bass, 6-2, 6-4.
