TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – Bohol congressman Erico Aumentado has disclosed that the study on the proposed 24-kilometer Bohol-Cebu bridge has been endorsed to China for possible funding.
Aumentado already met with National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan who eventually sent the proposal to China.
The Bohol-Cebu bridge will be a 24-kilometer series of bridges and causeways that will link Getafe town in Bohol to Cordova town in Cebu.
Getafe is only 17.5 kilometers away from Cordova. Except for the Olango and Hilotongan Channels, Cebu and Bohol are just separated by islands, shoals, and shallow seawaters.
Aumentado said Tungpalan sounded positive that the proposal will get a favorable response from China and chances are the project might start sometime next year.
The feasibility study of the Bohol-Cebu bridge was originally presented to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)for funding through an Official Development Assistance grant. Koica, however, did not push through with the funding. (Mars W. Mosqueda)
