ZAMBOANGA CITY – Combined law enforcement authorities arrested a longtime Abu Sayyaf member who was involved in a high-profile kidnapping case last 2001 in Basilan.
Police chief Insp. Elmer Solon identified the arrested ASG member as Ahmad Adil y Magatus alias Abu Umbra and Abdulrakman Zacaria and a resident of Barangay Mampang in this city.
Adil is facing criminal charges for kidnapping and serious illegal detention and was arrested Thursday inside his residence in Mampang based on the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leo Jay T. Principe of RTC Branch 1 in Isabela City, Basilan.
Adil was said to be involved in the kidnapping of 15 farm workers of Golden Harvest Plantation in the village of Tairan in Lantawan town Basilan province in 2001.
The suspect however denied his involvement with the bandit group and claims he has never been to Sulu and Basilan.
Adil, who adds he works in a public cemetery in Zamobanga City, is now detained at the Culianan Police Station here prior to his turnover to the court. (NONOY E. LACSON)
