Judiciary tries to extend its winning run to five games when it battles Bureau of Fire Protection tomorrow even as defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) renew their rivalry at the start of the second round of the 5th UNTV Cup at the University of Makati gym.
Led by the high-scoring duo of Chester Tolomia and Don Camaso, the Judiciary Magis and the BFP Fire Fighters clash at 2 p.m. with the former out to improve their 5-1 record.
Metro Manila Development Authority, which edged out Ombudsman for the fourth and final berth in Group A elims, start its second round campaign against National Housing Authority at 3:30 p.m. in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.
Despite losing to the AFP Cavaliers in the final day of elims, 72-67, the Malacañang Kamao topped Group A with a 5-1 card, followed by AFP (4-2), BFP (4-2) and MMDA (3-3).
Meantime, tomorrow’s matches will be aired live on UNTV and www.untvweb.com.
Like Malacañang, Group B topnotcher Bureau of Customs also took a bye at the start of the second round where the top four teams in each group play another round – all carrying their win-loss cards from previous round.
But all eyes will be on the AFP-PNP showdown with the latter going for a redemption after losing the best-of-three finals, 2-1, last season.
The champion team gets the P500,000 top prize aside from the corresponding P4 million which it donate to its chosen charity.
