Cambodian PM reportedly a Pacquiao fan.
Cambodia, whose Prime Minister Hun Sen was so incensed over Floyd Mayweather’s win over Manny Pacquiao last year that he didn’t pay up his $5,000 bet, is rolling the red carpet for the fighting Filipino senator when he and President Rodrigo Duterte arrive today for a state visit in Phnom Penh.
According to the Cambodian Daily, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia is setting the stage for a grand welcome of Pacquiao, who is extremely popular in Cambodia.
“We see it as an honor for our country, because in our country, most people are fans and supporters of Pacquiao,” NOCC secretary-general Vath Chamroeun told the paper.
A meeting involving Pacquiao and Cambodian national athletes is being arranged what with the tight schedule of the celebrated Filipino athlete-lawmaker.
Last year, the Cambodian PM was furious over the decision rendered by the three judges on Pacquiao’s landmark bout with Floyd Mayweather.
Mr. Sen was so disappointed and angry that he refused to pay a hefty wager on Pacquiao, who he said was the clear aggressor and deserved the victory.
Pacquiao will also join President Duterte in his Singapore trip before heading to Manila to celebrate his 38th birthday in his hometown of General Santos City on Saturday.
Pacquiao is being booked to return to the ring in April or May possibly against Mayweather in a rematch.
