Two holdup suspects were killed when they reportedly shot it out with arresting cops Tuesday night.
Police identified the slain suspects as Jayson Alquilos of Barangay Ramon Magsaysay, Bago-Bantay; and Joseph Lucas of Barangay Silangan, Cubao, who had records of involvement in robbery holdup and snatching incidents along Congressional Avenue.
Lucas was even listed in Masambong Police Station’s (PS-2) wanted personalities.
Prior to the encounter, Claudine Andrales, 22, reported that two armed men took away her cellphone and P2,000 cash on Congressional Avenue near EDSA around 5:30 p.m.
The PS-2 deployed a team of operatives to the said road where they saw the suspects chatting.
Upon seeing the approaching cops, the duo ran towards one of the shanties under the Culiat bridge. Instead of yielding, the suspects reportedly pulled out their respective handguns and opened fire at the lawmen.
Alquilos died on the spot while Lucas succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head while being rushed to Quezon City General Hospital.
Police, however, failed to recover Andrales cellphone and money. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
