BAGUIO CITY – A Grade 10 student who was on his way to school was stabbed 36 times while walking along an alley notorious for robbery cases that victimized students.
Police identified the victim as Kenneth Pacheco Velasco, 16 years old and a resident of Sunnyside Fairview here.
Investigation reveal that Velasco passed through an alley along Naguillan Road last Tuesday which was supposed to be the shortest way going to the Pines City National High School.
The victim’s mother Claire said he has been warning his son not to pass through the area where cases of hold-ups were reported earlier.
“Minsan naikwento nya sa akin na may kaklase siyang naholdap doon, kaya palagi ko siyang sinasabihan na mag-ingat at huwag dadaan sa lugar na iyon,” said Claire “Wala akong alam na kaaway ng anak ko, wala siyang frat at barkada at school at bahay lang siya mula noon.”
Residents saw Velasco slumped on the pavement and was immediately rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) where he was declared dead on arrival.
Dr. Rodrigo Leal, medico legal officer of the PNP Crime Laboratory Service, who conducted the autopsy said the student sustained 16 stab wounds in the head and neck; eight on the chest; 10 on his back and two on the upper extremities, which caused his death.
The victim’s cellphone and his P200 allowance for the day given by his mother were also missing.
Senior Supt. Ramil Saculles, acting city director of the Baguio City Police Office said the CCTV camera of the area is now in their possession and is hopeful it will lead to the identities and arrests of possible suspects.
