HAVE you ever heard of Snake Massage? One such service is available at the Cebu Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Office. Massagers are real and live snakes, 15 to 20 kilos heavy.
According to Giovani Stephen Romarate, zoo manager, the snakes are harmless because they grew up with humans, were trained and tamed.
He explained that there are really no therapeutic claims to the massage. Their goal is to let everyone know more about wildlife. Commonly, people run or kill snakes whenever they encounter them. The agenda is to educate people about snakes – that snakes could be our friends.
Blinky de Leon and Jonathan Cimafranca were the “Matanglawin” adventuristas who took part in the snake massage featured on our show recently. They claim that their fear of snakes disappeared after the massage.

In the same episode, we showed three different types of snakes: the Boa Constrictor, the Reticulated Python, and the Brazilian Rainbow Boa.
The difference between the Boa Constrictor and the Python (reticulatus meaning neck like) is their means of reproduction. The Boa is viviparous gives birth to snakes while the pyton is oviparous or lays eggs.
The Brazilian Rainbow Boa is thus called because whenever the sunlight hits its skin, it shines like a rainbow.
