The Manila Police District has deployed 444 policemen to main shopping districts in Manila this Christmas to ensure the security of shoppers estimated to be at one million in a week.
Senior Supt. Joel Coronel, MPD director, said shopping malls and markets in Divisoria, Binondo, and Quiapo are the most visited shopping areas.
“We have increased police visibility particularly in Divisoria, Binondo and Quiapo, where we expect a lot of people will be coming in. We expect close to a million shoppers, visitors, commuters arriving in these destinations especially during weekends,” Coronel said.
Coronel advised the public to be vigilant in these shopping districts and refrain from wearing jewelry or carrying large amounts of cash.
He said shoppers should bring companions as much as possible and urged them to seek police assistance when they notice anything suspicious or become victims of crime. (Betheena Kae Unite)
