San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria understands that it’s too early to think about winning the championship, knowing that they still have to face many challenges with plenty of things to improve on.
It might be getting a little difficult not to, however SMB’s 106-80 win against NLEX, has convinced Austria that they are on the right track.
“We played very good defense against NLEX and we matched it by executing well in our offensive sets,” said Austria yesterday.
SMB’s victory propelled the team to solo lead at 4-1, and it came after a surprisingly close 94-91 win over floundering Mahindra.
Against the Road Warriors, the Beermen held their opponent to 30-of-87 (34%) perimeter shooting while converting 41-of-81 (49%) from the field highlighted by 18 three-pointers.
“That’s the start we’re looking for and the kind of finish na gusto namin,” said Austria as SMB took a commanding 33-point lead midway in the fourth quarter.
“We’re hoping that we can sustain it. We know marami pa kaming makakaharap na malalakas na teams, and so we need those kind of games.”
