Former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes and Berzon Franco joined hands a in vicious second quarter assault as newcomer Bureau of Customs demolished Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, 84-71 and stayed undefeated in the second round of 5th UNTV Cup held over the weekend at the University of Makati gym.
A former University of Santo Tomas player, Franco shattered MMDA’s defense time and again to finish with a game-high 26 points – his highest so far in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for the country’s public servant.
Still sharp and agile at 42, Duremdes added 21 points aside from orchestrating the team’s plays that enabled the Transformers to win their first game in the second round. Marlou Aquino delivered with 11 points.
Overall, it was the seventh straight victory for the Transformers since completing a six-game sweep of the first round elims.
Not to be left out, Judiciary improved to 7-2 overall with a 74-63 win over Group A topnotcher Malacañang – thanks to another brilliant all-around showing of Chester Tolomia.
Known for his acrobatic plays, Tolomia sizzled for 25 points while former former PBA player Don Camaso chipped in 16 points and Ariel Capuz added 14.
