The Philippine Coast Guard deployed rubber boats and personnel from its Special Operations Group to the Bicol region as typhoon “Nina” approached the country yesterday.
The PCG deployed three M35 trucks, a small truck, 15 rubber boats, and seven teams of SOG to augment their manpower and equipment in the Bicol region, especially in Camarines Sur.
“Mas OK na pong mag-overreact than underreact. At ngayon po pupunta ng mas maaga ang pwersa natin galing Manila and Batangas to Bicol,” PCG officer-in-charge Commodore Joel Garcia said.
Garcia said he ordered Coast Guard Bicol regional commander to personally lead and facilitate the response operations in case the need arises.
“Alam nating kaunti ang kagamitan ng ating Special Operations Group sa Bicol so kailangan po nila ng additional na tulong,” Garcia said.
Garcia said 12 M35 trucks are deployed in the PCG headquarters in Manila to assist people in Metro Manila and Cavite once Nina hits the two areas. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
