TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources regional office 8 has revealed plans of a multi-million fund allocation for the massive bamboo and mangrove plantation around Eastern Visayas.
DENR-8 Regional Director Leonardo Sibbaluca said P200 million will be allotted for Leyte, P200 million for Western Samar, R100 million for Eastern Samarand another P100 million for Northern Samar.
Sibbaluca said the massive plantation is the flagship program of DENR secretary Regina Paz L. Lopez who envisions the program as a boost to the economic status of the region particularly those affected by typhoon Yolanda.
Bamboo, in particular, is known as a popular material for several furniture items as well as for food and the control of potential erosion in slopes and riverbanks. (Restituto A. Cayubit)
