VERY VALID – Highspeed reader Ric Caparangan of Caridad, Cavite City reminds that decades back he wrote this columnist when the Nora Aunor starrer, “Himala,” was about to be show in the early ‘80s.
He reacts to bashers on social media who call Nora “has-been” and “pull-out queen” as her films lately don’t make money.
Mr. Caparangan raises very valid points why this is so.
He blames poor promotion and marketing. And the roles and films, saying they “dehumanized” the Superstar. “The directors would want her to use just her eyes to convey an ambit of emotions ranging from fear, hatred, horror, to sadness” when she could do much more.

GREAT ACTING – The reader cites “Ina Ka nang Anak” with the great Lolita Ridriguez in the confrontation scene which Nora handled magnificently. “With minimal body movement, but with enormous display of emotions flowing her eyes,
lips,” topped by that curse word “hayop,” Nora has “shown to one and all what great acting is.”
Director Lino Brocka embraced her after that take with Lolit,” but not without letting out an expletive as an expression of amazement as well as a highest form of admiration.
Mr. Caparangan also cites Ishmael Bernal’s “Hinala,” where Nora (as the visionary Elsa) used facial expressions to show resignation and admission of “shameful self-glorification.”
“Himala” was voted by CCN viewers as the greatest Asian film of ALL TIME.

CHALLENGE – Ric Caparangan is challenging fans of the Superstar (GANAP, ICON, NGG, and other) to pool their resources and produce a film for her.
He has a story for Nora, “Lubid sa Laot,” a woman trapped in a system that she has to face and fight. It’s a difficult role, staying afloat in the system, in a vast sea of predators.
But the ending has a triumphant note.
