Traffic discipline zones called “Pook Kaayusan” will be set up in at least 23 identified choke points in Manila’s busiest areas starting this month.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said the traffic zones will be manned round-the-clock by 10 traffic enforcers who will work in two shifts – from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
“These areas will serve as our new model for traffic management, free-flowing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, maayos na maayos,” Estrada said. “Walang illegal terminal o illegal parking, walang basura. Sa madaling salita ay walang sagabal sa kalye.”
Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) chief Dennis Alcoreza said Pook Kaayusan is similar to Pook Batayan implemented during the administration of then President Cory Aquino. (Jamie Rose R. Aberia)
